Simple question.   I am learning how to use the app through the help guide and sample data sets as I am not near my car right now.  How do I select a second lap (for example your coach's best lap) to superimpose over a given lap of mine?
Also, the syntax in the app is confusing...
Task I assume would be a three day race at the same track?
Outing is a session?
Linking display to data set?  That makes no sense to me...
Thanks in advance.

Pi Toolbox is definitely tough to get started but once you do it is very powerful.  I've been making and posting tutorial videos for this reason.  Start with this one

Your biggest help is the F1 key..  The software has very good help files, from starting to heavy use.  Or Help     How do I.. Help.png

Thank you both.  The video is quite helpful.  It is starting to make sense.  I assume that once I am at my car connected, the "add outing" pop up will automatically bring up my cars recent session in the window?

Littleozfella was a huge help to me getting started as well.

I'm not really familiar with how the 991 work in that respect.  With the GM PDR the data is written out to an MP4 file that you can grab off of the SD card in the glove box.  Right-click, add outing, pick the file that was on the SD card.  I don't know where the data is stored or how it is retrieved from the 991 but I believe it's just a PDS data file rather than an MP4 with vid and data.

Hi Skibum, just one thing to be clear   which toolbox are you using.. there are 3 x types..  Toolbox up to 7.x    Toolbox 9.x and Cosworth Toolbox for  Alive drive.   I guess your using 7.x   The thing that people take time to get in their minds is..
Menu file.. to open a File is opening a WORKBOOK, not a log file..  (that's probably the hardest one)
TASK..  with basic toolbox you can have 2 x tasks, or using advanced with a dongle you can have up to 8 tasks.. It enables you to do things like checking different parts of one log file without having to overlay them..  Ie look at lap 3 on one time distance chart and lap 5 on the other, or as i do. look at the logs from one device on each task.. that is a very simple overview..
Outing.   Then in each task you can add an outing (a log)   As above, you can add the same outing in each task, or different tasks.. Then also in the Task you can add multiple outings so you can overlay them within that task. You can right click on each outing and use Select to open areas from each outing, ie a lap.   You can then hide the outings you don't want to see.  Remember delete outing means just to delete the outing from the workbook, some people panic that it means delete the log file from the computer..haha..

When you click Add Outing in the task it will bring up the last folder you opened from, so if you saved to a different folder you will have to search for the logs.
Best method is to sit on the sofa, get a cold beer and use Help and go through the system step by step..  This is an engineers toolbox, some other systems are easy to use and have a lot of the workbooks and maths preset, this can lead to issues. Toolbox requires you to do a lot of this for yourself, and there is a good reason for this method, you are working directly from the base root, leaving you to get the most accurate analysis.
 Cheers..

Toolbox 7.3.  Getting the mug nice and frosty...Getting several beers chilled!  Thanks for the overview.  At first, I just want to keep it very simple.  I usually go out for a three day race.   Coach goes out and sets a lap for me to compare with.  Throughout the practices, I just want to have his data and mine overlaid to compare my best lap in the session to his best lap.  The usual stuff-lap time difference, brake, throttle, steering angle, speed.  Then I can get fancy later.
Thanks much

One more question. When I hook up to car to download the session’s data at the track, I am opening toolbox to do so correct? And when I select “add outing”, will it automatically bring up the car’s data files or do I have to go looking for them?

Hi, You need to EOT for this, You setup the channels you wish to log, channel rates and also how you wish to manage the files when they download..
