GCCR
Hello,

I've recently bought a 9 year old racecar with a Pectel SQ6 to replace my previous MoTeC M800 shod Jade.  I became very familiar with the MoTeC and used log-data to tune at races, etc. but I have no knowledge of Pectel whatsoever. Is there anywhere you could point me where I can begin to accumulate the same level of knopwledge?  (Not sure where to start).

Well there's the first difference in the systems!

Over a fortnight since I posted and not a single response. Not even from the moderator or "Support". [frown]

Hi GCCR,

apologize for not getting back to you sooner.

I attached one of our user guides.

The manual was made for a Subaru ECU-Pro which is based on a SQ6. There will be a updated document for a SQ6 soon.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me directly or via pectelsupport@cosworth.com

Hope that helps.

Thank You for responding.

I'd best take a little time to read the document.
At the moment i'm waiting for my SQ6 to return - hopefully allowing me full access. So, assuming I'm allowed to, I can download the config file from the ECU copy it and familiarise myself with the functionality off-line on the copied file so I won't do any damage.

I'm sure i'll have lots of questions subsequently.

Thanks again.

Do you have any indication of how long it takes you to "Flash" the ECU ?  The reason I ask is that the very helpful Dave Hill at Mountune had my ECU sent to you to have this done roughly four weeks ago and they still haven't had it back. My first test date is coming up quickly, but.....well you can guess the rest!

I'm loath to keep chasing Mountune when the issue seems to be in your hands.  [confused]

Hi,

People use the term flash very broadly at times so can mean a few things. I am guessing that in this instance you are looking for a code upgrade?

Are you able to give me the serial number and the RMA number ideally that you should have been provided after filling in our returns form and I can follow up?

I assume it is an SQ6 ECU?

Many thanks,

Rob

Thanks for responding Rob.  By coincidence, Russel at Mountune  rang this morning to tell me he's been in touch with you and you've quoted a return date of 31st March. That takes it to over two months since I sent the ECU.

Please don't think i'm having a dip at you personally here, but is there any reason why it takes so long?

Why don't you (Pectel) offer a Technical "Telephone Help Desk" style facility ?

Having a forum which takes around a week for a response is simply not good enough if you seek to sell your ECU's as an after market product.

Hi,

No problem I can understand your comments.

As per my previous reply if you can let me know the serial number and the RMA number of the returns form and also what work it has been returned for then I can investigate further. I haven't been involved with it but with this information I can find out some more details for you.

Do you know who Russell spoke to? Did you purchase the SQ6 from Mountune?

We do have a phone number that you can contact. If you call the phone number listed on our website. +44(0)1954 253600 then you can be put through to the most appropriate person to deal with your enquiry.

Many thanks

Thanks for your response Rob.

I know it's rather remiss of me but I have no reference information of the Mountune query to yourselves or even the serial Number etc. of the ECU, so I'll follow up with Russel on Monday.

Is that Help Desk Number Pectel specific ?

Hi GCCR,

+44(0)1954 253600 is the main number for the Performance Electronics side (ECU, Dash, Logger, Software etc.) of the business - we are all based in the same area. Depending on what products or issues you are having, you will then be forwarded to the appropriate person to assist with your enquiry. Generally there will be someone available to take your call but if not we can arrange a call back.

Hi Reggie,

I have replied to you in a private message and will be creating a more appropriate thread for your enquiry.

Thanks and kind regards,

Thanks again for the number.

Just fyi, Mountune have received the SQ6 back now and have popped the original Map back in it after you apparently did something to it too. This cost me £300 !  For what i'm not sure.

Why this is made so difficult escapes me. With the MoTeC one would merely pick up the ECU and if you wanted to alter the map you could. If you screw it up and blow up the engine that's your call !

This paranoia over intellectual property, access levels and the like is just unnecessary and screws up what may be a good product.  I don't really know yet as I can't get at it to take a look, but hopefully I will know more soon.  If a Tuner really wanted the customer to not meddle with the map that badly, surely a password protect would be a sufficient deterrent.

Sorry to witter on, but I find it irksome to have to wait 2 months and pay £300 to use something I've already paid for. i.e. The SQ6 ECU that came with the car.

Hi GCCR,

Mountune would have been the one that would have decided to lock it to a developer. Traditionally the ECUs that are purchased directly from us would be set to Pectel External which means that any dataset can be sent to you.

There is the option of password protecting datasets but some dealer / manufacturers etc also have the additional level of protection which means only their datasets can be sent to it which is provided by having a developer locked ECU. This is all really up to the preference of the dealer / manufacturers.

Many thanks

Rob.
