Hello I purchased a 2010 Norma 20f with a montune honda and pectel sq6.

I did not get any software with the car unfortunately. I have downloaded the pi caltool and external personality file. Will I be able to communicate with the ecu with that personality file? I am not looking to change engine maps but look at the gearbox strategy  I also need to get the ethernet pc interface cable.  can I get one of those cables in the US?
Thanks
Jason

Was able to make a com cable. For anyone interested the ecu pins are listed in the  documentation. Some things I was not sure about but figured out during the process.
1. you can use a normal ethernet cable. I had though it may be a crossover cable.
2. The tx + (white/green) / - (green) from the eth cable got to the rx +/- on the pectel sq6

The rx (white/orange)+/ (orange) - from the eth cable go to the tx +/- on the pectel sq6

Hi jchong,

Where have you got to in terms of actually connecting to the ECU and accessing the dataset for your gearbox calibration?

With the Caltool software and personality you can connect to the ECU, but to offload the dataset you might need a metafile that matches the dataset code version if you haven't got that already.

Many thanks,

Hello Rob thanks for the reply. I was able to connect with the ECU Offload tool just to see the items allowed there. I tried to download the data that was saved, however an error message happens with a description of "error saving PDS file". Is the metafile for the ecuoffload or just the caltool?

Hi jchong,

So just for clarification. Caltool and the metafile and needed to offload the Caltool dataset. This is you engine calibration file.

ECU Offload Tool is what is used to offload the .pds the Pi dataset which is the logged data. You don't need a metafile for this. It might be that if your ECU is locked to a developer then you need a specific version of EOT to obtain the data.

Many thanks

Thanks for the reply Rob. I am going to move the ecu to the open developer personality later this year. I have some questions around how to get that done. I will start a new post for those questions.

Hello Rob,

Are the meta files for caltool proprietary to a developer? Can i get the metafiles that would go with my car?

Hi jchong,

No they aren't, if you can tell me the ECU and code version and map type (NA, Turbo, Turbo Mass etc) then I can provide you with the matching metafile.

Note that the metafile alone does not necessarily allow access to the ECU or dataset. There could be passwords, developers etc too.

Many thanks,

Hi jchong,

Ok this isn't quite as simple as I originally anticipated unfortunately.

That code version is rather old and I am afraid is from a time before Caltool where only the older Desc software was used. Therefore the Caltool support in terms of metafiles do not exist for code version that old unfortunately.

Many thanks,

Thanks Rob,

My ecu is going to the developer(mountune) to be unlocked. I think based on previous a thread here in the forum that the ecu would then go from mountune to cosworth for the unlocking  process. Is it possible to update my ecu to a newer code version that would be compatible with the caltool and metafiles?

Thanks
Jason

Hi Jason,

That shouldn't be a problem. Let them know that you would like the code updated to the latest version to and to state this on the returns form.

Many thanks
