Hello!

I try to support a private motorsport-team in germany. There is a original IMBERTI Ford Sierra Cosworth RS 500, built at Italy. This car is racing 1988/89 at the ETCC and german DTM racing series.

The number "5" car is famous in UK since some time, this is the "sister" car number "6" built by Mr. Imberti and the Jolly Club Bergamo. The engine use 8 injectors and the ECU version DM 3464, sold by Cosworth as a "Motorsport-Set".

The engine is running good, but we need a way to go inside the ECU, the RS 232 connecting point should work.

Is there anyone who can help us?

Hi Dick,

Are you able to send a photo of the ECU as well as the part number and serial number please?

Many thanks,

Rob

The picture at the top is an example photo, the exact ECU (under this signs) had no more a part number or serial number. Think the ECU´s sold as a complet set were without "Cosworth" lettering at the case..or too old or pre-official selling to all privates.

But possible another story or circumstances ?

I try to support car number "6"...in the U.K. the car number "5" is famous since some months.

Hi Dirk,

I am afraid that I don't recognise that ECU at all from our Cosworth Pectel ECU range. It is certainly not a current product that we have software for or can service I'm afraid, and I've not even come across one like that in our older historic products either.

Do you know where the "set" you mentioned was actually purchased from?

Many thanks,

Rob

Last week i had a call with Mr. Imberti at Italy. He remembers that the ECU was sold direct from Cosworth Racing Department for the RS 500, but i was a pre-serial product of the latest DM 3464, so there was no sign "Cosworth" at the case. But software should be the same.

I must admit I'm guessing here, but I would have thought that Cosworth Powertrain would have supplied that ECU.
The current Cosworth electronics team is made up of two businesses which used to be called Pi Research and Pectel at the time when that ECU was in made. So was probably not created by either of those entities.
In any case, we do not have access to any software that is able to communicate with that ECU. The best bet is to try and get a hold of other people that own RS500s, there might be some that have links with the old development team.

Just thought of these guys Modatek . They cater for various classic Cosworth engines/parts. Might be worth contacting them and see what they think.

I am not sure if you solved this issue but I think you will find that this is a TDD ecu.  I have run into these on Lancia Integrale Evo.  Maybe Cosworth did a project with it or somebody has just made the case with Cosowrth on it.  Otherwise it looks exactly the same as the Lancia one I had. As it is so big I gutted the inside out of the ecu and put another ecu inside of it. (I had a T6-2000 which I used the board out of)   Not sure where to ask about this, Nocentini in Italy is associated with Walbro TDD products he used to use in Evo Mitsubishi's but i think this would be a very dead product.
 cheers.
