i just purchase a 2004 dodge viper with twin turbo and e85, traction control, wire harness by john reed. how do i communicant with this ecu.  i tired and hook up my snap on scanner to the OBD2  and gave me a bunch of faults codes. then i was told i cant used the OBD2 port. i need to ship the car back to the builder/race shop.

i would like to see if everything is working probably and see if my air fuel is good.  i think one bank is running rich.

i also heard there is a backup battery that needs to be replaced also and maybe a ECU update. i seen a LCD gauge i can purchase. would this help me out?

any info on this will be great!!!!!!

You will need to download and install CalTool, as well as the personality file, you can find that on the forum here. https://support.cosworth.com/post/latest-software-release-announcements-and-downloads-for-pi-caltool-9610496?pid=1309327782

You then communicate with the ECU over Ethernet connection. The ECU needs a static IP of 172.16.255.189 , so set this up correctly first. Make sure your firewall is set to allow CalTool connections also.

You can inspect the state of the battery once you have connected to the ECU be seeing what date/time the ECU is reporting. If the date is wildly inaccurate then the internal battery will need to be replaced.

also how do i know how old my internal battery is? there is a sticker on my module saying (Tested😃S Sept,14). what happens if my battery dies/flat. vehicle doesn't start? i lose logging/tune for good?
only asking because i wanna do some maintenance on it and know future problems how to keep it up to date.

i still have to figure out how to download the programs also seen a fee of 29.00 for 40 days? is there any videos how to use the software?
could i save/download/data/tune for the future.?

THANK YOU!!!

Hi,

If the battery goes flat, the ECU will report the wrong date in CalTool/Engine Offload Tool. You will loose you logging configuration, however your tune should remain.

In regards to downloading the software, follow the link i pasted above, there is no fee. Its free of charge.

I download the personality file and cal tool. Then under configuration devices/pectel ecu properties/connection/advance ethernet properties type in device adress(172.16.255.189) then port 60000

Bottom right says journal error and no device

I really have no idea where you are in this..  Lets start from scratch. After you have installed Caltool and download the Personality, you must double click on the personality file to "activate" the personality before opening Caltool.  Then go to your network setting properties and set the IP to below..     I would also advise to go to Properties and disable  Open Caltool and be sure that in Caltool you have Comms enabled.. Menu FILE and in then Detect Devices should be checked. (F11 key to toggle this)   IF you have issues please post screenshots of the messages.
